My name is Amy Burge, and I teach 8th grade language arts (honors and regular), Shakespeare and Film and Literature at Albert R. Lyman Middle School in Blanding, Utah.
I graduated from Utah State University in 1995 with a History major and an English minor. I taught for 5 years at Elk Ridge Middle School, and during my second year I earned my Reading Endorsement. My time at Elk Ridge invigorated me: teaching students, starting up the Renaissance Festival, coaching the freshman girls' basketball team as well as many intramural teams, and directing plays. It was a wonderful experience. I decided to focus on my own children for the next nine years; I am lucky enough to have four beautiful kids. In the fall of 2010, I jumped right back in at Mountainville Academy teaching students in history, language arts, and theater. I would have been happy there for the rest of my career, but my husband received a principal appointment in the San Juan School District, and we couldn't pass it up. So, our little family moved over 300 miles away to begin a new adventure. Since then I've earned my ESL Endorsement, co-directed the middle school play and was selected as a Driven 2 Teach participant for their 2013 Boston trip.
I am now in my 9th year of teaching, and it's getting better every year. I believe there is power in knowledge and in positivity. I am here to help each student reach their fullest potential, and I love my job!
